Ok, so i have a 1989 corvette that recently within the past 10 thousand miles had a complete engine remanufacture from jasper engines. I drove it to my college today in the rain with no problems. When i returned to my car to leave, it had trouble starting. I hear a whining sound that the car usually does not make and the check engine light comes on about 10 to 15 seconds after it has started. When i press on the gas either it bogs down, dies or backfires. Could this be the distributor? Could somthing have gotten wet causing this to happen? I checked all connections that i could see and everything looked fine. All fluids are at proper levels and such. Engine it self sounds fine and i cant really hear that whining sound from the outside of the car, though when i get in the car i can hear it. I think im gonna have to go back to school to get it towed, but does anyone have any ideas???? I waited awhile for a ride and before i left i tried it again and it did the same thing. I drove it around the parking lot and it was lacking power, just bogging the more i pressed on the gas. Your help is appreciated, thanks for your time.
i think the sound is coming from up front where the dash is, how do i check the engine codes? what do i need to buy to tell me what codes its throwing?

You need a paper clip, thats it. You bend the clip into a long "U" and jumper terminals "A" and "B" on the ALDL connector (which is above your right knee when in drivers seat).
It's just a matter of counting the flashes of the "service engine soon" light. There will be a short pause between digits. Such as flash, pause, flash flash = 12
Also, fuel filter could be at fault. Release the pressure on the fuel rail and see if it starts up. I have had the fuel filter, internally, come apart and it gets sucked up against the outlet side running to the motor...restricting fuel flow to almost nothing. Replaced filter, problem was solved.
Good luck!
