A few questions for you guys. I am considering selling the T/A in the sig, in lieu of a C4 vette. I was wondering what I would have to do to bring the HP level of an LT1 or an L98 to that of my LS1?
The main reason for this is the cost of modifications. Am I right in assuming an LT1 or L98 power'd vette would be cheaper to mod than an LS1? It seems like when you add "corvette" to any aftermarket part it just about doubles in price. With that in mind, here's an example of LS1 prices:
Cheaper yes. And it wouldn't take much to get there. Look at some packages to get an idea. Check out http://www.moreperformanceinc.com
A little pricey but I got my eye on that 396 LT1 stroker.

Re: LT1/L98 v.s. LS1??? (neat)
You must first come to grips with why exactly you would like a Corvette instead of an LS1 TransAm. Straight line performance or twisties?
You can get 350 HP out of an L-98 for less than $4K and much, much less if you do the work yourself. L-98 parts are cheap, LT-1 parts are more but the LT-1 is much farther advanced to start out. Buy an LT-4 and some will argue that you already have an engine that will hang with the LS1.
My best time to date is a 13.94 at 104. This is at a 5000 ft elevation, and consistent with LS1 #'s produced here. That is something like a 13.1 at sea level. I did manage a 13.19 at 111, (low 12's at a lower track! :D) but that was with a 100 shot of the magic gas, which I no longer have. I guess I should of mentioned my extreme elevation, will that affect an LT1 or L98 differently than my LS1?
will that affect an LT1 or L98 differently than my LS1?
It will probably affect them all, but I think the LT1 would have more losses in common with your LS1, both making their big HP #s higher up in the RPM range (stock).
If you want straight line performance sorry to say guys but he should keep the T/A. Stock you make about 340HP, with LT Headers, off road y-pipe, catback and Lid (w/K&N), LS6 Intake you should be up around 400HP+,add some Drag Radials you should be in the high high 11's or low 12's with a 1.8 60 foot or so in good air. What's your 60 foot time? :yesnod: PS if I wanted pure acceleration I would have gotten a 2001 6speed Z28, 105mph+ trap speeds stock.
Well, like I said earlier, I don't really want to shell out the cash for an LT-4 powered car. I am leaning towards a 1991 coupe. It seems like I could buy the car, and have a rocket for a lot less than I am paying now. I dunno, I guess I'll keep my options open for awhile.
Bear in mind that at this elevation cars run about a full second slower than they would at a decent track. Also, my track prep SUCKS. Old shoebox Chevy's with 24 inch slicks are only cutting 1.8 sixty's. My best is a 2.2XX. The auto LS1's with drag radials and a convertor aren't even cracking the 1.9's, they are still in the high 2.0XX range.
