I found myself interested in the TPiS Exhaust system, again, as I saw them advertising it for sale on EBay for the first time (I think it's the black finish--makes it look tough). I made TPiS an offer (less than the $600 sales price) which they kindly refused. They also mentioned that they were selling 2 or 3 a week. Has anyone bought this system recently for an L98 and can tell me anything about it? I am particularly interested in the sound, of course. Aggressive?

I am running the TPIS cat back exhaust. It is a nice item, comes with flowmaster mufflers.
I couldn't bolt it on myself, I had to have a muffler place cut and weld it for me. 65Z01 runs the same exhaust, we both like it alot.
Chris,
I don't know what you have for a set-up, but I have heard that these systems are not for stockers. They have a 3.5" pipe coming off of the cat and then splitting into dual 3" pipes. There a some folks that believe that no back pressure is the only way to go, but I have head that some back pressure is a good thing, especially for torque. I actually asked TPIS about this system they said it would kill the low end torque of a stock engine, really belongs on a car that has heads and a cam. If you have those, then it may be a sound choice.

What year car and any other mods. Fill out your profile. BTW I think EM has a group purchase going. Their fitment and features are supposed to be better.

Thanks---I'm currently using one of TPiS's older y-pipes (same size as the pipe in this system) with straight through 3" pipes out back. I haven't noticed less torque, but you mentioning that you asked them about this is VERY interesting. They should probably state this up front in their catalog.

Yeah, you're right, I really need to fill out the profile! No mods, though ('89 6-spd). Incidentally, what is "EM"??
Wow, guess I'm in good company with Vic & 65ZO1 running it. I like the black finish, so far no real rusting inside the pipes (I only put on 2-3K miles a year). Not loud at idle, but I'm stock cam/heads 85. To me, it sounds a little "boaty" at cruise with the LT headers, much better at WOT.
Thanks, everyone, for your replies. Well, until TPiS agrees to reduce its price, if anyone wants to sell a used TPiS system for an '89 please let me know.
Using TPiS headers on my 89 track car in addition to cold air induction, modified/bored MAF, 52 mm throttle body, fully ported plenum, ported SLP runners, AFR heads, TPis ZZ409 roller cam with 1:5 roller rockers, MSD ignition & distributor, misc accessories, and Corsa exhaust with cat eliminated. The car runs nicely and makes good power to 6,000.
