I have a 84 and was replacing the fuel filter today when I noticed a fusable link running from the wire harness to the starter. The wire from the harness is a real thick red wire not as thick as a battery cable but pretty thick. This red wire has a crimp on it that has the numbers 166 and 12 stamped into it. After the crimp all the insulation was burnt off right up to the eye that goes to the large post on the starter selonoid.
1. What does this fusable link feed (I think its the ignition switch to the starter).
2. Where can I get a new fusable link?
3. Do these just crimp on in place of the old crimp?
4. What would make this burn the insulation off and not just burn the copper wire?
