Default Shocks TPIS or Bilsteins?

Hello,

I am debating which shocks to get for my 87. narrowed it down to TPIS and Bilsteins w/Z51. Anyone using TPIS shocks? I mostly looking for info on the TPIS shocks.

Thanks All.

What's your goal with the car, and how do you want it to ride? I've tried the Bilstein z51 and they are honestly much softer than i expected. The Bilstein special is a killer shock though. Same with the Koni Yellow. But then again i like a firm in control ride.

Mostly Weekend car some trips to the drag strip. Will eventually beef up the motor. I don't mind stiff but I don't want too stiff.

I am running Bilstein Sports (Z51). If you are just doing normal highway driving and have the standard suspension I would go wit Bilstein HD.

I don't know who makes TPiS shocks.

That's what your car came with is Bilstein Sports. How many miles are on them? Mine have 52,000 miles and "float" just a bit, but they are still OK. I like them fine.

The TPIS shocks are made by Bilstein and then revalved and modified by TPIS. I have them on mine (no Z-51 option) and like the ride they are good going down the road but inspire confidance in the corners. For a real track car I would not recomend them. But for a street car I like them but its all subjective.

Yeah, Monroe was a poor choice. If you drive your car hard sometimes you will like the Sports. I think Ecklers still has the best price for four.

I tried two sets of 'Corvette special' Monroes on my Z-51; both SUCKED, both leaked. Talk about garbage!

Went back to the original Bilsteins, rebuilt and revalved by the factory to Challenge specs. Better ride and more tire-on-the-road over bumjps was the payoff.

I have a near-new pair of Sport model, I believe. They were on my car for less than a month, while NOT a daily driver.

Numbers I have are:
22024066
441-0238W001

$75/pair + ship

Guess it depends on what you want to spend. The Koni yellow is much more in control than the Bilstein z51, you just don't have that "float" what so ever. They aren't harsh, they are just costly. One nice point is they are lifetime rebuilds for the original owner. Helps justify the $550 a little. I guess if it was my car and i was keeping it for a good many years i would get the Koni, if i was just driving here and there and was planning on selling the car in a year or so just grab the Bilstein, they aren't that bad.

I have had TPIS shocks for over a year. Some autox and track days, but mostly a street car. I'm happy with them. The car has the base suspension, with Z07 bars, poly bushings and camber brace.

Thanks All.

I am leaning towards the Bilsteins.
