I was recently e-mailed a photo of a stock LT-1 exhaust out of the car. One thing that is noticably different between the stock system and the aftermarket systems is the cross bracing. Take a look at the factory system and you will see. The factory exhaust has several cross braces that most of the aftermarket systems lack.
I am no physicist! But, I am thinking that some of the resonance comes from some type of tuning fork effect created when the exhaust gases are forced through the system.
I am wondering if you have a good welder brace these systems up, it may help? I am planning to do this myself. I will let you know.
Unless my memory is totally shot, the Magnaflows for an LT-4 that the OP posted about in that thread are just the mufflers. Any bracing along the stock pipes would still be present.
Maybe you can post that photo. My LT-4 exhaust only had bracing at the hanger locations, and these were close enough to the h-pipe or resonator that it seems a resonant frequency would be changed slightly but not eliminated.
I'm happy with Corsa, so I guess I don't really have a dog in this hunt.
I got the idea from looking at a picture of a stock '96 LT4 exhaust to
weld in a balance tube on my B&B 3" system. The resonance is
gone or no worse then when it was totally stock. I was able to live with
the B&B system until I installed Long tube headers and then it became unbareable.
I tried with and without the center resonator. The center resonator apparently needs to be there.
However, the rear balance tube works for sure.
GM figured that one out a long time ago. I originally though a x pipe
in place of the center resonator would do the trick but that make it
a lot worse. When I re-installed the center
resonator, I did receive the newer longer one from B&B. If you don't have a
mig welder any muffler shop can do that for you. Works for GM, works
for me! A 1600 rpm the tone gets real low-but does not amplify. You can
talk, listen to the radio..etc, but still sounds cool at WOT

I thought the resonator in a stock LT1/LT4 system allowed exhaust pulses to cross over between the two sides already? I wouldn't think another balance point (H-pipe) after the resonator would have any additional effect.
look up the LTX pipe on ebay, it is an x pipe that goes in place of the resonator. Just had mine put on two days ago and here are the results... less resonance inside the cabin, louder and meaner on outside and I would say SOTP perf. gain.

That's my understanding, too.
I'm curious if anybody has ever cut open one of those resonators to show/post any interior details of it.
