Default Headman Elite Headers.....Opinions?

I was considering buying some Headman Elite headers.....used.

What does the forum think of them?

For my 1988 L98 corvette......Stock motor with miniram and free flow exhaust system.

They say the fit is good. You will need to adapt to the rest of your exhaust. if they are used the O2 bung should be there. You need that. I would not use any headers that have not been ceramic or Jethot coated. Something to consider.

The elites are pretty good headers. You can get ball/socket adapters that have the O2 bung in them. Fit is good as long as you don't have an oil cooler adapter. They hit that on my car. I've heard the coating on them is pretty tough (get the coated ones).

They hit the hose right? Go to the dealer, get a new oil cooler hose and cut it short by about 5/8 inch where it goes into the block. This will bring the hose in enough to clear the header.

I did this, but I had EM headers. Maybe it will work for you.

I'm not running the elites. I've got SLP Tri-Ys now. Mine actually hit the adapter itself. However, mine's an 84 which pipes the oil to the radiator (like old-school oil coolers) not coolant to the oil.

I have them and like what I got, for the dollars I spent.
I had to move a wire bundle (pass side) to the other side of fuel line. Fortunately it was an easy job, both fuel lines separate(filter+union) at that area.

My corvette is a 1988 with the Z52 package, so it does have the oil cooler.

For what it's worth, I have the factory oil cooler and it's not an issue with my Elites.

I have had them on mine now for 4 years without any problems. No leaking, no fitment issues, no discoloration, coating is still in great shape. Just have a bung welded on and you'll be good to go.

Default Would be nice if they were tuned

It would be nice if they were tuned for a full improvement like the hooker headers.

You will get a fuller improvement with the 1 5/8" primary tubes of the Hedmans over the 1 3/4" primaries of the Hookers. The Hookers aren't "equal length" headers, either. The Hedman's will start working at lower rpms than the Hookers and pull all the way up top, with the Hookers. The Hedman Elites are probably the best L98 header for the buck.

RACE ON!!!

I have the Hedman Elites on mine, bought new 3 years ago ..... very pleased with them.

If the ones you are buying are used, not knowing the outer condition - I would consider having them JET-Hot prior to installation ..... about $200 and they will look like new and have a good coating on them.

yup got the elites on mine too. The primaries on the hookers are way to large for a tpi engine. Didnt have to move the oil cooler line on mine, did have to move a wire bundle. They are very tough for headers. Thermal paint has held up well. Best bang for the buck in a low power application.

if i were to do it over, i would have gone with 1 5/8". this was 3 years ago.

my fault for going the advice of others here at the time, due to my own ignorance and thus incompetence.

there's tons of awful advice posted right here on C4 tech all the time.

I am very happy with my 1 3/4 Hooker's. They seemed to work well with my stock L-98, and I am sure the new 421 will like them alot better then the smaller Hedman's.

Not too mention the fit and finish on the Hooker's were top notch!

Probably because you live in Canada, so they can take advantage of the "free" healthcare.

Be sure to measure the Hedman Exhaust ports and your head ports. The Elites I got were 1.20" side to side, which is smaller than my exhaust ports.
