Default Question: Install of DeWitt Radiator

95 LTI coupe P engine

Guys:

Ok, I will remove my leaking radiator today and replace it with my newly arrived DeWitt Aluminum Radiator (A90). I have some stupid questions please.

1. In the shipment, two thin metal bars, with attached black screws were included with the radiator,
2. Two foam strips were included in the shipment,
3. Instructions were included regarding trimming two rubber pieces.

What are these things (1 and 2) for, and how do I use (install) them?

On number 3 I have a guess. By reading this site and the Helms manual, I presume that the new radiator is slightly larger than the stock one that will be removed. I assume that I need to trim the rubber supports on the underside on the upper shroud. This so that it will fit back properly when placed atop the new radiator unit.

Are the bars meant to be spacers to serve the same purpose? Where would they go? On top? On Bottom?

The foam pieces, and they have a adhesive backing, what are their purpose? Where do they go? In between the radiator and the AC unit in front of it?

The DeWitt lady said it would all make sense as I pulled off the shroud and began taking things apart.

I guess I would like to ask before I did that.

I have not removed the shroud yet. I have read through the steps in the Helms manual. Beyond the above questions, it seems to be a straight forward remove and replace job. The exception being to be careful about the OptiSpark.

Thanks

take it out. it is so simple you won't believe it. the 2 metal strips bolt into the radiator and shroud. it will be extremely self explanatory when you get it out of the car and take it apart. i was in the same boat as you when i did mine. i was actually laughing when i got the shroud apart

the foam attaches the the top and bottom of the radiator. pull the tape off and stick it on. it acts as a seal

you will only need to trim the rubber about 1/4" and not all 4 of the rubber pieces get trimmed. there should be pics in the box. or they can email you pics.

guess i could have been more specific abou tthe 2 thin metal pieces. they are fan spacers to move the fan away from the radiator and go between the fan housing and the shroud

so I put the foam on the top and bottom. It is to seal it better. The fan will sit about 3/8 of an inch back from the original fan position. That will eliminate modifying the shroud
