Default Wheel offset!!

Ok so i recently purchased a 1985 C4 corvette that is all stock. I really want to put some different wheels on it but i was told that the offset on the 85 is 38mm and that there after it was 58mm. I was just wandering how i could make the newer wheels fit, and not have them look stupid.

A lot of people put spacers on with the newer Vette wheels with the different offsets. I got some AFS ZR-1 wheels and they bolted right up.

Here is the C4 suspension chart on the Corvette action center site. Know it, love it, bookmark it.

There are quite a lot of aftermarket wheels available with the correct 36mm offset.Check out AFS,OEconcepts,Factory Reproductions or many of the vendors. If you want C5/C6 style wheels you will need to use 3/4" adaptors not spacers.

1" adaptors will work just fine too and are actually cheaper and more readily available. But as said before, the best option is find a replica wheel from said manufactures in your offset.

I believe adapters have a second set of wheel studs, meaning you bolt the adapter to the existing wheel studs, then bolt the wheel to the adapter. Spaces are just a plate that go over the wheel studs to push the wheel out further. But you have to be careful you have long enough wheel studs to do this safely.

I'm pretty sure that's the diff anyway. I imagine an adapter can't be as narrow as a spacer, since it needs room for the second set of lugs and such. I.e. you could have a 1/4" spacer, but probably not a 1/4" adapter.

You want an adapter, not a spacer plate. Difference has been stated above

As long as you are not road racing this car seriously, I would not be concerned about using .75"-1" adapters. (I believe the right size is 3/4" for most later C4 and C5 rims) Nothing bad will happen.

Ok now another question, if I wanted the ZR1 wheels from AFS will the 17x10" fit the rear of my 85? And these will fit the car right?

If you are buying the AFS aftermarket wheels, they do come in the correct offset for your '85.

When looking at C4 Corvette wheels on most sites, you will see you have two choices. 1984-1987 and 1988-1996

If the company offers the earlier size (As AFS does), then you won't need the adapter for those.

I believe those will be 17x11 from AFS and 9.5 on the front.I have those on my'87 with 275 front and 315 rear Sumitomo's and they fit perfectly.Make sure you order the 36mm offset.
