The mounting is different in the front.
There are 3 tops used on C4: 84-86E, 86L-88, 89-96.
Some of the aftermarket suppliers do have adapters.

you need the brackets on the windshield header that go with the year top you are using. Most Corvette junk yards (check ebay if nothing in your area) have them. BUT be sure to get the plastic trim piece that goes on the inside of the header(that matches your brackets)....bolt holes are in different positions.
