go to the tech tips section and download the instructions for the IAC setup. keep it handy so you follow it properly.
set your min idle almost on your target with the iac, down only like 50-100 rpms. the iac is slow and will hunt if your not tight with the range.
you hve a modified set up now, the fsm should only be a reference.
Timing is going to be something your going to have to play with to get it right. DOing adjustments to the timing may also require reseting the IAC along the way.
SOme of the aftermarket throttle bodies make setting the IAC a PIA, that is why I say to set it up the min idle tight to the target.

target idle is, you need to set up the min idle -the farther off you are on the min the more the idle will hunt - the iac is a stepping motor, it is slow a snail **** it will over shot and then over compensate the other way.
So I have everything set up and the motor running.
Problem is it's not running the way I want it to be running.
I suspect I may some timing/ignition issues.
Here's what's happening:
1. I have what I think is a knocking. Never heard one before. I'm running premium gas.
2. The #8 cyl header pipe is getting red hot
3.idle goes up and down. funny part is it did that before I did the work. it kinda hunts for idle. IAC is new.
4. There's a hesitation when I hit the throttle. It will kinda bog before it goes..
I'm getting no codes.
Thanks
1 & 2: Timing is the likely culprit. We got it close, but not dead on because we were not able to get it to idle with the ESC wire disconnected (sorry I had to leave!!). Min idle definitely needs to be set first, so start there.
3. Again - start with setting the min idle (which should be set about 75-100 rpms below the programmed idle in the chip. Ask Alvin where it is set.
4. Probably a combination of timing and acceleration enrichment, but again - min idle needs to be set, then timing, then see if there is still a bog.
I think a timing/ignition issue would be global and not just on #8.I would be looking at either a valve gap issue or a bad injector.#8 should be the coolest running of the lot if you still have the EGR setup. Also there's a possibility that you have the plug wires hooked up wrong(forgive me)With a bad idle it's hard to tell and will give you a cherry red pipe and the rest of your symptoms.

HEY!!! Went over everything and found we had 4 and 6 switched on the distributor. Clearly it was on your side of the motor..... I don't make those mistakes.
Can't fire it up an 9:15 at night. Neighbors would be pissed.
I'll try it tomorrow.
That right there will be a start. The fact that it was running at all is a good sign for tomorrow.

jsup, have you talked to alvin about getting him those 2 datamster recordings we discussed? this will be your next order of business.
oh, and in 50 miles you'll want to change your oil. then do it again at 500, then again at 1,000. change your oil filter each time as well. then back to your normal change intervals.

See my other post where I clearly deflected blame
Glad to hear all is well. Get some exhaust on it and get ready to head on up in a few weeks.
