Default Compression Ratio Question.......

Ok, last annoying question as to my build.......

The stock CR was 10.25:1. The only thing I changed was the gasket. I went from .050 to .040. What is my CR now.

I know that there are CR calculators out there. I don't have all the info such as deck height, which would be stock, and piston volume, again, stock.....

Any help would be appreciated. Anyone think I picked up 1/4 point? 1/2?

I don't know but it wouldn't be much. Can you use one of those calculators to model a baseline that is close, and then just change the gasket variable? That should give you some idea. My guess maybe .25:1

I was just working on this last night, I will try to look it up for you but I think it is less than .25, I will guess about an .125

I used an online calculator and just minipulated some of the numbers and came up with 10.5.

I left the chamber size and such the same, just manipulated the deck clearance and piston volume until I hit 10.25, or close enough to it. Then I changed the gasket.

I don't think that's all that accurate.

What gasket?

Becuase its not just the compressed thickness...but also the bore.

I know my 1010 gaskets are .039 thickness...but also 4.166 bore. Stockers are something like .051 compressed with a 4.06 bore.

That bore will also affect volume for the calculators

That's what I was suggesting. The nice thing is .... the point is moot. It is what it is!

Felpro 1010s. So maybe there's no gain, which is cool. I just didn't want to lose anything.

I came up with about a .25 as everybody else did however I had to mess with the numbers to get the stock to 10.25, what is the dish of the stock piston?

Your stock 1990 L98 short block has a CR of 9.5 to 1.

No, 90-91 Vettes had 10.25:1 from the factory from the flat top pistons.

It's 10.25. Bet the house on it.

Got it didn't disagree just was looking for the specs IE 54cc heads, -5cc pistons, .025 below the deck etc.

I wonder why GM would saddle a high compression engine with such a restrictive intake.
