Default ?'s on engine removal

I pulled the trans last night in my 86 coupe in about 25 minutes (doing it on a lift at work makes it a breeze.) I'm going to go ahead and pull the motor this weekend - just a few questions.

How far down do you have to tear the engine to get it out? Does the upper intake (plenum/runners) have to come off? The PS pump - is there room to leave it hooked up and set aside? Same w/the AC compressor? Lastly, the engine harness - do you guys unhook it from the motor or is there a way to feed the ECM end through the firewall and just pull it with the engine? How about the wiper motor - is that coming out?

I've already read up on pros/cons of removing the hood and think I'm just going to pull it from the side, looks pretty easy and I don't think I'm at a shortage of space.

You've done the hard part already.

Take the a/c compressor off and lay it aside if you still have a charge in the system. Disconnect the headpipes, the power steering hoses and the harness from the engine. You can't get the engine harness through the firewall hole from the inside....it has to come from the outside into the interior of the car. The other part of the engine harness (from the connector under the booster) also stays with the car. No need to remove the wiper motor, but you might want to remove the dist cap, just so you won't crack it if you bump into the wiper motor.

Definitely remove the distributor cap. Tilting the engine in the back is important for clearing the crossmember with the damper. I didn't remove my hood either cause I hate aligning it again.

The engine comes out from the side, so you can leave the hood on. You may not need to remove the crank pulley with the trans out, but it might still be easier if you do.

Remove the wiper motor ; gives much more room to tilt engine back so pulley clears steering rack.
You will bust the plastic wiper motor cover before you crack the dist cap.
