Default lt1 to lt4 conversion

hey guys,

Im new to this board so please bear with me. I am considering buying a late model c4 i want either a 95 or 96. i was considering a older zr-1 for a while but the price and the lack of parts available for one ended that consideration. I would really like an lt4 equipped 96 but there are not many of them out there and they are a bit more expensive than lt1 equiped vetts obviously. My question is this, has anyone ever done the lt1 to lt4 conversion? i know there is a kit available to supposedly make a stock lt1 comparable to a stock lt4 but are those real gains? also could you throw the "hotcam" in there to beef it up while your at it? Do you have to replace your tachometer since the redline on the motors is about 500 difference? or does the converson kit allow you to get as high as the stock lt4 does? Thanks for being patient with me and i appreciate any and all coments

Check http://www.paceparts.com. They have a kit with the hotcam that does just what your looking for.

1996man,
the pace upgrade as noted is a nice addition and with proper programming will gove you some very impressive gains. i recommend starting with the LT4 if you find the right deal as the motors have some differences between them as well... the rods, cranks, and pistons are different and a little stronger in the LT4's as opposed to the LT1's and you get alot of nice little extras to go along with it such as the 8k tach it already has the LT4 knock module, it came without an egr from the factory, and it has nicer emblem for the engine cover and for the throttle body plate... just small things there but i like them! good luck!

Here's a link of the motor differences between the LT1 and LT4. The pace kit covers most of the major stuff but there are some smaller things that also you may want to address. http://home.tir.com/~steveher/lt4.html

I have a good buddy that did just that. He has a 96 auto and changed the LT1 to a LT4. He also bored it to a 385 and added a intercooled vortech to it.

If you want more specifics, let me know what you need and I can ask him..

The tach signal is electric, but the gauge is analog. The speedometer is digital.

Its just a matter of purchasing one and putting it in. They're not cheap though.

I would recommend finding a good 96 as well, simply because it is a better car to start with. Little things like improved weatherstripping can make a difference in years to come.

Lingenfelter sells an 8k RPM tach to replace the factory one.
