Figured I'd start a thread to show everyone my progress with my 86 coupe that I purchased a month ago. I have a short block and transmission on the way which I'll receive next week...went ahead and pulled the trans last night and the engine tonight....here are some pics:
here's the motor mounted on a stand/next to my trans and what not...
and before any of you guys ask.... YES I REMEMBER WHERE EVERYTHING GOES! ha. cheers.
Engine was in and outta my car twice last year. The worst part is getting it to line back up in the motor mounts (atleast that was what I hated the most). Have fun with it.
...it always bewilders me as to how one is able to "easily" remove the engine (and sometimes the engine and transmission as one piece) from a vette.....still, although i know (based on picts i have seen in the forum) that it can be done, i cannot see much room for maneuvering the hoist or even enough room not to hit the hood....with other cars i have taken the hood completely off and don't recall removing eng and trans at the same time....(hope i never have to remove any of mine!)..

honestly i cannot remember doing an easier engine...i take that back... doing an engine on my 75 CJ was even easier - i guess i'm saying that i can't remember doing an easier FI engine. the trans was even more of a joke. of course i have the luxury of a lift, massive tool arsenal, great shop crane, etc etc... i suppose when you get used to pulling engines out of range rovers, ferraris, etc, you forget how much easier it is to work on an american made car from the mid eighties....
that having been said....i am SORRY for anyone who has to do this job on their back. YIKES.
