Default Accel Fuel Injectors

I have an 89 auto, stock, with 75K miles. I want to keep the car as stock as possible and will be changing out the fuel injectors. I am leaning towards the Accel #24 injectors and need some help.
Will I need to do anything else to the car if I use the #24's (fuel pressure, etc.). There are two injectors that Accel lists: 150124 and `50824, does anyone know what the difference is? Is one better than the other?

89 Bob L: I would not recommend that you put the 24 pounders in your 89. Doing this may add to you list of problems with the car. Some people have increased the size of their new injectors and everything was fine. However, other people have not been successful.
Why take the chance when you can get the proper sized injectors at a reasonable price? You mention the need for an AFPR and this is a must if put the 24's in your car. In addtion, you will need a scan tool to properly adjust the AFPR. Let us know what you do on this and the results.

Stay with around 22 lb. Your 1989 is 21.5 at around 43 psi. Stay close to that spec. I like the Bosch injectors.

Ideally you would add a AFPR along with any new set of injectors, the computer can adjust to the larger spec but it needs a little help.

I know accel revised their injectors, but I still wouldnt use them.

Thanks for the tips. I was told that the #24 injectors run at approx. 22 lbs where the #22's are at around 20? The #24's seem to be the closest to the stock injectors?

Default Fuel Injectors

I have a '91 stock L98 and I replaced my injectors last March. I purchased stock replacement Sorenson injectors from Auto Zone. The were about $46.00 each if I remember correctly. The car runs good and I haven't had any problems. Make sure you don't use a solvent type fuel injector cleaner. They desolve the insulating coatind on the electromagnet coils and then they short out.

P,S. remove all the fuel rails, it will be easer to remove and instal the injectors. The runners can stay on, just remove the plenum. Make sure you have the retainer clips on correctly. You want the O rings to seat properly.

Good luck, Mickey

I think you should use a light film of oil on the O rings. Don't get Accels.

I have a set of Accel 24 lb injectors in my car, and I love them. The car runs great, and no, you do not need a new chip to run them. Your computer will make the adjustment w/ no problem. After my install, I could not believe how much better the car ran, and how much better the fuel mileage was.
I recommend the Accel injectors.

I read where increasing the fuel pressure on stock injectors actaully help the spray pattern. Usually the consensus is to add a AFPR when going with 24's on a stock engine. It's best looked at on a scan tool and see what is really going on. Search around an see what else is available. Your stock multecs, if they still are...are not servicable. I used a set of stock 88 injectors serviced by cruizinperformance in my 86 and no problems.

I put the Accel 24# from Summit and I love them. The car runs better than it ever has, and fuel milage is alot better also. I wonder if the people who say not to use them have ever used them. Lots of people seem to like them.
