Looks like my power steering supply line let go. No fluid in the reservoir and nothing sprayed in the engine compartment except for what looks like a drip and wind blown splatter all over the underside.
Help before I just start tearing her apart. Are there any tricks or tips anyone can share about replacing the PS supply line? Looks like alt and AC comp need to be removed before being able to get to the PS pump.
Remove the serp belt, disconnect the battery and remove the alternator. Unbolt the A/C compressor (don't remove the lines) and push it out of the way and use rope or wire ties to hold it away from the bracket. There is a serp belt idler under the compressor that needs to come off.
You should be able to unbolt the PS pump to get to the hose fittings. I would replace all of the lines when you are in there.
I would also use Red Line Power Steering fluid as the replacement fluid. You are going to have to flush and refill the system anyway.
With all of the components on the left side out of the way, it might be a good time to install new plug wires. The driver's side is a PITA to do as those wires go thru a bracket under the accessory mounting bracket. With all of the components gone, the plug wires are clearly visible. Passenger side wires are not hard at all.
Well, got her torn apart and after doing more inspection up on stands looks like the culprit is the PS cooler. Got it pulled out so now I need to find a shop tomorrow to verify the leak by pressure checking it.
Does anyone know what PSI I should have it checked out at?
