giday everone ! just a quick question about rim and tyre size. Have a 86 with stock wheels, whoud like to know if i can go bigger and wider. Also whots a good shocky replacment. thanks for your help!
G'day mate Are you prepared to import this stuff?
Yes you can go 17",17"18"staggered and bigger if you want.I don't think it looks good over 17" but thats just me.
On the '86 whatever you go for you need 36mm offset otherwise you are going to have to run adaptors to set them out correctly.9.5's on the front with 285's and 11" on the rear with 315/345's are a nice set up.www.afs.com or www.tomzwheels.com
As for shocks I have Bilsteins but there's many more out there.
This aussie on holiday in Scotland caught this kilted guy ******** a sheep and he said "g'day mate, where I come from we shear those"
to which the Scotsman replied"i'm noo sharing this with noo one"
9.5" rims need a 38mm offset.
11" rims need a 36.5mm offset.
You'll need to know that whenever you buy rims, if its much different from those specs, it'll sit too far in, or stick out. When they sit inwards, then you'll want an adapter plate, e.g., if you used rims from an 88-96 or C5 rims.
I had 17x9.5 rims on mine with correct offset from AFS wheels, now I have a set from TomZwheels. I run 275/40s, but could use 285s if i wanted. No bigger than that on a 9.5" rim.
You can go with 18" or 19" on it if you wish, but I dont recall ever seeing bigger than 20" (rear) on a C4. Most only go with 18"s
As for shocks, it depends. Is it just a cruiser with mild spirited driving, or a weekend race car? I use Bilsteins.
I'll throw another vote out for Bilsteins. Love the replacements I put on mine. And the 16 year old ones I took off still had pressure in them, they weren't totally dead. So definite quality, and I like the ride and handling on them.
