SYS blinking on dash
I know the SYS means system error. I ran the car a week ago to keep the engine freed up and battery charged, michigan winter sux, anyways, all was fine.
I started it today, and where the gas mileage, gauge numbers go in the LCD, would blink SYS three times, then return to showing coolant temp, then about every 10-15 seconds, would blink SYS again.
I shut it off, and restarted it 5 min later, and it was fine. didnt blink SYS for the 20 min I had it running.
what would cause that? this stuff is all new to me.

my only rebuttle to that would be, why when I shut it down and restarted it, was it not flashing the SYS?
it did not start hard but it is 12 degrees here and has not been started in a week or so. it turned over but took an extra 2 cranks or so to fire.
I dont mind replacing a battery, I replace 2 things on every car I get it seems.
battery and tires
dont matter if I have them a week or 5 years. I always end up replacing them.
I just put a battery and tires on my truck. why not this also, I just put rear tires on it. why not a battery to compliment them?

Get a battery tender. I did & it solved my problems as I could only drive approx every 3 weeks. The tender kept the batttery charged, no more "sys".
Interesting responses to your SYS blinking. I JUST posted a similar thread today, as my '93 just started doing the same thing.
I will see if I get the same replies and let you know if I get anything different. Also in Michigan, maybe it is something in the air up here! Surely NOT spring in the air!

dude, I just started hitting mine with a charger for about 3 min before I start it if has sat for more than 4 days. or if it is cold outside, below 20
have not had this problem since.
I am replacing my battery when the weather breaks.
The SYS will flash when only the CCM monitors an error. If a code is set, it would be in module 1 and you can get it by going into the diagnostic mode to retrieve the code. A lot of the time as many know a battery in poor condition will cause the SYS to flash. But there is no code for low voltage so you will not see a code that was set.
Codes will be cleared if 100 ignition cycles occur with no further problem, its cleared in module 1.7, or the battery is disconnected.

I have the sys light flash on my 94 LT1 - then, I got "odo err" where the mileage is. It's currently in the shop getting new head gaskets. I got the vette at a pretty good price and the seller said that there might be a leak because it was throwing white smoke at start up (and was losing collant without leaking it!). Anyway, the seller put in a new battery, a Valuecraft which is the lowest model at Autozone. Do you think that this crappy battery may be the cause of my sys light and odo err? I bought a autoxray code puller off ebay, but the seller sent it FEDEX with sig required and anyone who buys off ebay knows what that means...if you're not home from 8-5, you don't get it. Any ideas?

Start a new thread of your own I doubt your issue is as simple as a bad battery. Glad to see you are using the search function I will post my thoughts in your new thread.
Yeah Gary, if you have an aftermarket head unit, you will have to put a couple of resistors on the dimmer wires to give the CCM the right amperage to not throw that code.
