My wife and I bought our first corvette back in sept. and it has been sitting since being driven home 1200 miles. Its a one owner 91 convertible from nevada in pretty good shape. Here's the problem. The lady that owned it was having door lock problems and accidentally locked herself out. She called a locksmith and he 'disabled' the electronic doorlocks, and that seems to have disabled a few other things with it. Horn, stereo, air conditioning, ride control, the headlights work but are dim and have no hi/lo. I'm a 60s musclecar guy and am completely unfamiliar with this type of modern electrical so some suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Is there a single circuit that would have been diconnected, and where would I look? A wiring diagram may be helpful, any links? Thanks, the sun's out and I wanna get this through inspection so we can cruise!
The Factory Service Manual, a must if you plan to do much of your own work, will have wiring schematics. You can order one HERE. Otherwise, that sounds like an awful lot of stuff to all be defeated at one time. You might check to see what your owners manual has to say about what circuits are on the same fuse as the door locks. Maybe all he did was pull a fuse (or three). Welcome.
Make sure to change out the coolant regularly.
The '88 thru '91's had head gasket issues and old coolant aggravates the condition(leads to blown gasket-common in our year cars).
Thanks guys. The fuses all seem to be in order, as that would be where I would go to disable a system. If a locksmith did it I'm sure he wouldn't crawl under the dash, I'll check the harness next. I'm also in the middle of restoring a 61 6cyl Apache pickup. It has a generator and the 'harness' is 2 wires taped together. Makes troubleshooting pretty easy. Doorlocks? ha! it doesn't even have backup lights.
You are not alone....
I am an old school type but as was recommended...get the service manual. You will easily be able to fix anything with the correct schematics
