C5 is probably the easiest and certainly the cheapest. You should be able to do it for around $500 if you source the parts correctly.Your only problem is if you still have the original wheels on there. It won't fit.You are going to need to go aftermarket 17".Wheels and tires about a grand.
The C5 setup, buy all the parts for the Z06. You use the correct fluid hoses for an 84-87, not a C5. The only thing about using these brakes is finding the adapter bracket to make them work, cheaply.
I run it on my 86, but the guy who made my adapters isnt making them anymore.
I just make 10 sets of adapters for 1985 - 87 and 10 sets for 1988 - 96 Corvettes. But I think as I live in Germany it would be to expensive for you as shipping is not very cheap. So a set of lasercutted, zinc plated adapters with bolts and washers would cost approx.:
$170 @ 5 sets
$165 @ 10 sets
That's shipped and includes Paypal fees. But I think it would be cheaper to fab your own ones. I can email you the drawing ...

Eike;i just went back to your original post about this with the PDF file drawings and was wondering if you made the 85/87 plates as you had them shown. If so I'm not sure they will work as they are flat and wont move the calliper sideways.I posted a pic underneath your post to show you what I mean. The later ones seem fine.
I checked with some forum members who have done the C5 upgrade on their 85-87 Vettes regarding the dimensions. For sure I'll test how the adaptors fit before shipping anything. I'll post pics as soon as I have some ...

Jeffvette still has them. You can contact him here www.pnwzr1.com
I have done a few C4 upgrades... Are you going to race the car? If not:
Option 1 JL9 12 inch brakes from the LT1 cars. Better than the single piston brake you have now. Not bad in street conditions with proper pads. Cost? $75 to $100 for used calipers and brackets. Maybe $120 for Hawks HPS brake pads. Maybe $65 for rotors Estimated Total $260 to $300. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1957393
^^Shameless self promotion^^
Option 2 J55 13 inch brakes from a later LT-1. If you get lucky, maybe $50 to $100 more than option 1. Estimated Total $360-$400
Option 3 Grand Sport Calipers 13" brakes. Basically a J55 caliper with a cool "Corvette" logo" on the side. I believe they came initially, on Grand Sports in 96. Still can get them from GM. Do a search or two on various sites. $325 on this post. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1958041
$65 for rotors. $119 for Hawk HPS pads. Total $509
Of course these are approximates. If you watch the forum For Sale section you may find a deal that will significantly cut the costs of the calipers and brackets for both C4 stuff and C5 stuff.
Good luck!
I will now defer to the experts who have done C5 upgrades.
