I'm not sure on a stock motor, and I mean realy stock.
On mine I would think it would give about 5hp gain. From the open air lid the ram air gave me a solid 5hp gain.
I didn't notice an increse in loudness with the open air lid. The purpose is to remove restriction to air flow.
As with other such mods, alone they may not make a noticible difference, but combined they make for sizable gains (I'm still running stock cam and heads).
It does the same thing that muffler eliminators do: it makes the car louder! I have done both to mine (red/red '92 auto coupe), and I can attest that it makes the car louder. What's that you say? Speak up - I can't hear you!:D :D :D
Since this is not the most restrictive part of the system, it won't do much of anything. If you add exhaust, a k&n and a chip and thermostat, you would probably start to get a benefit. The more mods the more of a difference it will make.

It does make it a bit louder up front... you get a satisfying "whooosh" sound as you go WOT.
However, as I discovered yesterday when I installed my muffler elims, you get so much 'growl' from the back end that you can't hear the 'whoosh' from the front! :D :D :D
