The only BowTies I'll be wearing are on my front emblems! :chevy

Getting a PROM or a MemCal?
MemCal: plug it into ECM n go.
PROM: unsolder old, resolder socket, plug it into MemCal, plug it into ECM n go.

ECM in an 86, in dash, pass side foot well area. (As I recall.)
Two screws on case expose MemCal module.

Neck type bowties,... :U

Easy to get at. Sit in pass seat. Now, turn until head is where feet were, and feet are where head was. You'll see 3 screws (7mm) holding plastic panel in - the one with the light in it. Undo them; disconnect light connection. Look up in cavity; you'll see a white or creamish rectangular plastic bracket holding an aluminum box in. There are two harness connectors going into the box. Undo the connectors (squeeze if blue plastic; pry outward with screwdriver if metal clips) and pull off. (Don't worry - disconnecting it won't hurt anything!). Now undo the two screws (10mm) holding the plastic bracket. The ECU (the alum box) may drop right out; if not, just pull it out.

The long alum strip on the ECU covers the MemCal (Memory Calibration unit). Unscrew it; push off the two end clips holding the MemCal (the blue thing). Push the new one in. Reconnect harnesses (leave ECU dangling); take for test ride.

Re-assemble when satisfied with testing. The second and later times you do it, you can get away with stealing your wife/mom/girlfriends' bathroom mirror, and just kneel next to the seat looking up with the mirror and take it out.

After 10 - 12 times, you'll have it down to less than 5 minutes, all told.
