I bought a pair of AutoMeter Cobalt-series gauges for my Corvette dash. I found a bit too much variation in the brightness of these side-by-sides, so I called, then sent them to their IL factory. Incidently, they still make things in the US!
The technician was unusual, in his support and his effort to ensure sameness in illumination, despite differences face esign and LED color and broghtness variations. He installed a small variable resistor on the brighter gauge and sent them back. It works perfectly.
I would encourage any of you who are shopping for gauges to buy American, from a company that still cares about customers.
As the fuel computations no longer function, I replaced the switches with the gauges:
Without a doubt Autometer has some of the best customer service that I have seen.
Even got an upgraded guage in the past for a replacement on a guage they discontinued due to a run of bad sending units. The replacement guage value was MUCH greater than the original guage, and it was sent at no extra cost.
Now the hard part starts: finding a minimally invasive route throught the firewall. I plugged the water temperature gauge into the sender; in the right-head hole, normally used for the fan. It works like a champ, but it's only routed around the windshield for testing. I think I will use an aftermarket switch for operating that portion of the (single) factory fan.
The bad is still the work done by Sevens Only Racing.
