My 89 L98 alum. heads are ported by a good machinist(no flow #'s). They still have the stock valves in them. I'm thinking of going to 2.02/1.60 valve heads. I've heard afr 190's are the heads to get. They're also expensive.
My question is, how much power are my stock valves holding back? By going to a head with the 2.02/1.60 valves, how much power will I see. Also, would it be cheaper to have my heads machined to allow the use of the larger valves? Seeing as they're already ported, it might be a lot cheaper to upsize valves than by buying a new set of heads.

Re: Heads (black_89_vette)
First, great dyno numbers! The Mustang Dynos usually report 20-30 hp less than the Dyno Jet. Most of the guys seem to use the Dyno Jets, so you may want to consider having it done on that equipment for comparison reasons.
Second, in my opinion, going to 2.02 valves would not be worth it especially below 6000 rpm. It appears your engine was built for maximum torque below 5000 rpm and it delivers it! I bet this baby really accelerates hard! A bigger valve may give you a few more peak HP but I doubt you would feel it or see any improvement in 1/4 mile times. Your head flow is probably good now since the heads are ported.
I checked out your website and it appear that engine is really built and uses a lot of Lingenfelter parts. You may want think about a little more cam as that would be cheaper than changing valves.
Basically what I was interested in, is how much hp can flow through a ported 89 L98 alum. head? I know, flow #'s are good to have, but I don't have them.
Who out there is putting a lot of hp through their stock ported L98 heads, and how much can they flow (hp) before the stock valves just won't flow any more?
