I wold like some of the more experienced corvette guys to recommend some budgeted performance upgrades for a 1993 LT1. Mine is bone stock. Don't mind spending some cash, but want to keep it pretty reasonable say under $1000 for the total.
Is it an auto? If so gears will give you the best bang for the money. I got 3.54 gears and a shift kit installed for 1k.
Long tube hedders are also a good choice. Some 1.6 roller rockers will give you some extra ponies too.
Start with a gear change as mentioned, I like 3.45's in my 93 A4, some go to 3.73, just a little too steep for me. A high stall torque converter is a good complimentary mod with the gears, but if you are paying someone to do the work you won't get both for 1K.
If your car is manual it has 3.45 now, you can go all the way to 4.10 with the 6 speed, have fun.
I am curious, I have installed headers on my 2door Tahoe with a 350, alot more room to work with, but how in the hell do you pull that job off with a vette?, I wonder if I pay someone to install headers and exhaust what that labor would be? And if it's even worth it, what maybe 5-8rhp? Do those high intensity coils make any difference in anything, or are they just a waste of money, I think stock is 35k volts and they upgrades are 48,000 volts.

Yeah, add that high output coil to one of these and look out

I just installed long tubes last week. The job was not that bad about 6 hours of work.

edit:
No it's manual
Save up another $500 and have a Hotcam put in it. Headers and that other stuff is Mickey Mousing around.
93 is the best year for the LT1. Grand wont get you far for track or dyno #s but if your looking at the bigger picture of how far you want to take your car you could get some supporting mods done. K&N airfilter, exhaust, plugs, wires. For a grand the biggest bang for the buck (no nos) has to be cam or gears for a stock 93 manual. IMOP, go gears as your cam should be picked out when you know what you want with the car. Come back to us with 6 grandand will give you the secret reciepe that will have you beating 99% of street cars on the road.
If you are not put off by NOS, go NOS, you will get the biggest performance increase within your budget. Personally, I'd be too worried about overusing it and fragging the motor...
Gears would get you the best seat of the pants sensation.
However, exhaust won't give much of a seat of the pants thrill, but the sound alone will be very worth the $$.
You could be like many on this forum though...start with 1 thing, and then it just snow ***** from there as your wallet allows. I know, I have thousands and thousands into my car.
He's pulling your teat - stay far away from that and an airfoil
I can't believe you said that! The Turbonator knocked 2 seconds off my ET and the mileage increased so much I now need to siphon off excess fuel periodically so the tank doesn't overflow!
