84 w/ Hard shift on auto trans
I got my 84 vette as a project. Finally getting the motor buttoned up and working out the little issues. Ever since I got the car the trans shifts VERY hard from park to reverse, reverse to drive or anything of that nature as long as its shifting into a gear. Thing is that when I drive the car it doesnt do this hard shifting. any ideas? I was being told it might be the trans or motor mounts. just looking for any help. Fluid was alittle low so I added some today and didnt really help. Its a hard jerk too.

There IS no trans mount. Be careful with whom you consult. If it isn't shifting hard from one gear to the next while driving, chances are what you are experiencing comes from excessive play in the drive train. It could seem worse if your idle is faster than spec. Check for play at the slip yoke, back lash in the differential, and play at each of the 6 universal joints.
