You can't just "set" the fans at what you want to. There are 2 choices in the HPP. You can use a 160 or a 180 stat. It will ask which you have to program it for that stat.

It seems to me that there are only 2 choices regarding the fans. YES or NO. Yes means you get the new program which is on at 172 F and off at 165 F. (I did not like this setting since I drive my car long distances and there is no point for having the fan run constantly. This would however be helpful at the drag strip.) No means you keep the stock fan program.

For those who drive their cars on a regular basis it may be better to use a manual fan switch so you could turn it on when ever you get stuck in traffic, well before the temperature reaches 225 F. I have never seen an aftermarket fan switch wiring harness kit for 96's as I have seen for 95's and older. I assume this is because of OBDII on the 96's. Does anyone know how to do a manual fan switch on a 96?

I just loaded my LT4 the other day. Got my unit from Richs in previous post. If you use the "Y" selection at the start of programming you will get:

optimization for the 160 stat & 93 octane fuel.
fans on @192 off @185
rev limiter @6400 (for LT4)

If you get into the custom program, you pick the thermostat, it sets the fan temps as follows;

180 stat fans on@213 off@205
160 stat fans on@192 off@185

there are many other choices in the custom program, but the unit is a piece of cake to use!! The instructions are super simple!!!

Hope this helps you!

Sorry for misleading info in my earlier post. I did not realize my PP2 from May 97 was replaced by a better version. FrankLT4CE
