Your original L98 is an externally balanced engine. Its different from a 400 which uses a weight on the damper. The L98 motor with the 1 pc seal has a neutral balanced damper up front and the flywheel has a weight on one side. Hence, externally balanced.

My original Balancer on my 85 measures 6.75" the new Professional Products also measures 6.75" my engine is not back together yet but I am not figuring to have any issues. The balancer looks just like my stock one with a weight bolted on the back side.
