I got my Kuhmo's installed yesterday. When the guy did one of my wheels he said it had a slight hop to it, probably a problem with the wheel itself. Oh well, I can't afford to do anything about it, so he just balanced it as best he could anyway. I got it up to 130 or so on the way home and it was rock solid, didn't feel like it was bouncing at all.
They do seem to have pretty good rain traction. I can still break them loose but it's a lot harder than it was on my bald GSC's
Rich, that's the right tire. Mine just happen to be in the 275 40 17 profile. You'll really like them, your profile is the same as what my friend has on his Z-28.
I've got Kuhmo's on the back right now (the GSC's up front didn't need replacing). They haven't let me down yet! I'm definatley wrapping the other rims up with 'em when the time is right! :yesnod:

Why not move the GS-C's to the back & boil 'em off???
All 4 of my GS-C's are good; over 1/4"...But starting to see "dry-rot" lines, soooooo...(Livin' on borrowed time)...

you may want to check if the tire rack has the yokohama AVS Intermediate in that size. They don't have as good hydro resistance, but they have better dry grip than the kumho's

According to their R&T magazine ad, they have the Yokohama's in 255/50-ZR16...No picture of the tread, though...
...I do like the look of the Kumho tread...
(I can't view the TireRack on-line listing; it won't display to Netscape)...

My front GSC's still had some tread, I had planned on doing what you say. Alas, it was raining yesterday and I wouldn't have been able to find a dry road. Oh well, I still had fun with my already bald tires the other day. Once I knew that my new tires were here I just roasted the old ones every chance I got. There's just no sense in getting new tires if you have ANY tread remaining. You have to get your money out of the old ones right? :reddevil
Basically there were 3 AVS tires, the AVS wet, AVS dry, and AVS intermediate, so it isn't like they aren't designed for rain, they just don't handle standing water as well as the kumho's will. Too bad they don't make them in 275/40/17 or 315/35/17
the yoke AVS int. was made in a 275 & 315, it's possible they are sold out since production quit, if you just need a 275 or 285 the A520 is the hot tire for the buck & will definatly out handle the older int. anyway more kuhmo priase, aren't they amaizing for a 280 compound tire? i have never driven a tire this hard that handles & hooks up so well. the 712 is DEFINATLY the hot ticket for a daily driver.
I haven't really had the chance to see how well they handle in the dry as far as cornering and such. I can tell you that the rain traction is very good. Oh sure I can still break them loose but I have to try a lot harder now. It's also solid in the rain, last night it was raining like crazy and it felt great. On my old tires I could feel the rear drifting at over 45 mph. I had these up to 136 on a wet road and they were solid. Note, I said wet, not standing water like it was last night.
