Bad Tranny
LOUD grinding/rubbing noise, especially in reverse, and that's at a complete stop. It's an automatic.Unfortunately, my wife was driving it at the time and hasn't let me forget it yet -- probably won't for a very long time. The only positive side of that is that she can't blame it on my fast driving -- and, no, I don't dare say anything to her about her lead foot.
Anyway, can anyone recommend a quality repair shop in or around Raleigh, North Carolina?
My current option is to get a rebuild with lifetime warranty from Aamco for about $2,800. The money doesn't bother as much as Aamco does. I have declared the car undriveable at this point, so would have to get it hauled there.
I had one transmission rebuilt by Aamco about fifteen years ago and, fortunately, purchased the lifetime warranty. Had to use the warranty several times.
However, the transmission was fine until I brought it to a local transmmission shop with a good reputation. They did "routine" maintenance on the tranny and ruined it in the process, which is why I had Aamco do the rebuild. The original shop paid for the rebuild. All I paid for was the lifetime warranty portion -- thank God I bought that!
