Default 383 Internal Engine Issue

I had an injector failure back in December that washed down and bound the #6 cylinder and loaded up the oil pan with gas. The mechanic was able to break loose the engine, flush the system, replaced 4 injectors and all the plugs, wires, cap and rotor. I have put on about 500 miles since this incident. Now, It starts fine, it runs fine under a load but stumbles at idle and at coasting speeds. You can see the voltmeter drop from 2/3 to 1/2, 2/3 to 1/2 as it sits at idle or coasting. It's as if cylinder 6 is running tight. The engine has about 8000 miles on it total. Should I just run it and hope it loosens up a little with use, or drive it till it croaks? Maybe toss in some Marvel Mystery Oil.

My opinion would be to run it.
The mystery oil thing is a good idea. I have no personal experience with it recently but have read many posts that state it does work.

It may loosen up a bit but I would drive it with the radio off for a while so you can keep a good ear on her

I left you an answer on the other site. Hope it helps.

ps--You sure don't want to take a chance on putting metal thru the engine and it is an easy check.

Got it . Thanks. It's in the shop. I'll let you know the rest of the story later. Could be a charging problem. Doesn't appear to be engine realted at this point.

How do your think a cylinder binding (seizing?) up and maybe still running tight, relates to a stumble at idle and alternator output? I don't get the connection. Does the engine seem to suffer any symptoms related to cylinder wall or piston ring damage? Is it using a lot more oil since the event?

RACE ON!!!

Silly me. I'll pass along the culprit as soon as I get the diagnoses.

I don't see a correlation between a "tight" cylinder and voltage drop. Sounds more like an electrical issue, maybe alternator.

Thanks to the regular contributors. I totally jumped to the wrong conclusion. It was in fact the alternator in conjunction with an arching plug wire on #5. These are brand new Bosch plug wires and for some unknown reason the exhaust manifold keeps burning the plug caps. I jump to the worst possible conclusions. 6 kept frying so we put on an Oldsmoblile insulated plug cap and that solved the problem there. I have a set of A/C Delco wires in the shed. I'm going to change it out in the morning and see how it holds up. Thanks again.
