Would a bad motor mount cause a very loud CLANG CLANG CLANG in my engine compartment? I know that "A" motor mount has been replaced before, I'm just not sure which one. It's on my 75 Chevy truck(BTW). Thanks in advance.
I would say it's like a piston or bearing or something. But compression and Oil pressure are A-O-K. Even performance doesn't seem to be affected. The only thing that seems affected (I THINK) is my idle. The clang gets louder/more rapid as the rpm's go up. At idle, it's bearly even noticeable really.
Could be a bad water pump. My '88 S-10 started with the bang and clang and turned out to be the fan blades hitting the shroud. Bearings in the water pump were shot.
Good Luck!
Hmm..I never thought of that... I know that recently, my fan belt threw, and I lost all my coolant, etc. I also lost a freeze plug from the passenger side of the motor. I'll have to check that out. I'll run my motor with no accesories on it, to see what I hear. Thanks!
The funny thing is, it sounds like it's coming directly from the passenger side header! That's why I think it may be the motor mount right there.
My truck had a shudder to it before. Like, when I'd floor it, then RIGHT before it was about to shift, I'd let up, then SLAM the gas again, the whole truck would just go BANG! Like something was loose.
If it only happens when you give it a lot of gas, it might be your tranny mount. B/C if your motor mount was bad before, all the torque goes into the tranny mount. So you might want to check your tranny mount.
Yeah, i kinda thought tranny mount too. hell, I'll have ALL the mounts replaced! (Just to be on the safe side.) All this is in efforts, to NOT have to build a new motor. I wanna see JUST how long a Small Block will last. It's 26 years old with 175k miles on it. Heads/Bottom End/Tranny = 100% UNTOUCHED!
Before it started making this noise, it ran an all time best of a 14.9@93 in the quarter mile. I was impressed!
