I am looking into getting the LT4 hotcam kit. I am just wondering what the actual kit comes with, and what extra I will need in order to take advantage of the full powerband. If you could list all the pieces that are needed for the conversion(RR, valve springs, etc.)
Yeah, I have read a few topics about it. I was just wondering if the kits you guys got came with: cams, 1.6 RR, springs, retainers, keepers, and shims. I talked to someone and they said they weren't sure if the keepers and shims came with it or not.
Also, what redline would I be looking at, only mods done are in sig. I was wondering if those springs and retainers were good enough to push to a higher redline.
Thats what some tuners will tell you, and thats where mine is set at.
Of course I have to guess where I shift at since my tach only reads till 6k, but right when that needle is pointed straight up, I am pulling the shift lever
I have an auto, so I would have to set the shift points with the power programmer. I heard without some headwork done that I shouldn't push over 6300 but wanted to know what you guys are running.
How will the hotcam work with the stock torque converter on an auto? I know when I had my F-Body the guys were saying you should up the stall speed when going with the hotcam. What's the concensus here?
I never heard anything about the TC, but I did hear that it would work best with some 3.73's. Actually TC, 3.73's, and hotcam are next on my list, so which ones should I get first?

Re: Hotcam question (BAdAzZV8)
LT4 hotcam kit....
Cam, roller rockers, valve springs, shims.
Other items to consider, new timing chain heavy duty. Vented opti conversion to accomodate the new timing chain. And yes on the automatic, go for the gears and TC first. The TC isn't essential, but the gears are with the way the cam is. Also need to do some tuning for the ECM with the cam.
I bought the cam from Dal @ Vandevere Pontiac (cadillac maybe, I don't know, one of those GM dealers) I bought the springs from Interenet Racers Supply, I bought their brand double springs, they come with the new spring seats and retainers (around $100). I had to get the new valve seals locally.
I have my rev limiter set at 6300. I did the cam, crane gold 1.6's, springs, and an electric water pump, I picked up 44 hp. You can see my dyno graphs here. http://24.17.202.123/htmls/dyno_corvette.html
Bad,
hot cam is a great budget cam project that will certainly give you some gains in power! reprogramming on you car will be a must to optimize everything. i strongly recommend some head work with this cam to really get the most out of it. as for gears, they will help but the cam makes great torque across the board to begin with so you would be fine drigin with the stock rear... i do think going 3.73's might be a little extreme unless you are a full out drag racer and seldonm drive the car on the highway. i think a 3.54 or 3.45 would better suit the car. i went with 4.10 gears in my car and am now either wound up tighter then a drum in 4th at 6600 crossiong the traps or in 5th gear, i think for turning trap speeds like are possible with this package that much gear will hurt you on the top as much as it helped you off the line. so consider a compromise here. im planning to either upgrade the cam to pull more revs or down grade the gears to cross while im in a safe rpm range. if you do the cam swap i highly recommend getting an electric waterpump and upgrading to an 80 dollar cloyes dual roller timing set, this is a $280 dollar double mod that is completely worth the money, the car will run considerably coolerand get rid of some very heavy parasitic drag, and the extra strength and friction reduction from the dual roller over the stock link style time set will make you feel alot better, and both are not much more then upgrading to the LT4 heavey duty GM set alone and your getting more goodies!!! do it while your in there or you will wish you had down the road!
good luck,
chris
ps all my mods and numbers are in my signature for reference and somewhere there is a dyno graph floating around, maybe i'll post it up on my website if i get a chance!
thanks!
chris...... bets of luck and hope ya join the hot cam club1
The water pump is only about $200. The double roller chain is the extra 80 there.
You can get some of your stuff from http://www.internetracerssupply.com I've had good luck with them. Be sure and get all the gaskets you'll need. A custom computer from Ed Wright will run you $350
How much does he charge you to upgrade it, once he has already programmed it. Like after I get the port/polish and cam I want it programmed, then also after I get my gears/headers/tc.
Well I'm getting the hot cam for 460, so I would be getting the electric water pump, double roller chain, 3.73's, 2800 stall TC, & long tubes from you. Shoot me an email with individual prices for these things, and how much you could give them to me for in a package deal.
This is exactly what I wanted to hear!! :yesnod: You see a lot of posts on this board from people with 6 spd, but rarely do you see someone talking about the A4 with the hotcam. Contrast that with the F Body Forum and you see many guys running the a4 with the hotcam, albeit usually with gears and torque converter.
Here is a question. Lcvette says that torque is good throughout the powerband. Is the torque decreased at all from the stock cam in the lower rpm range? Or is it just not maximized due to gearing?
