I recently installed EM long tubes & Dynatech Powercat conveters right off of the collectors. I was concerned about how hot the sides of the trans tunnel were getting, even with the Thermo Tec heat barrier, so I checked the temperature of the cats with a temp gun that only went up to 500 degrees and they maxed it out. I called Jethot and they told me there coating would lower the out side temp 300 to 400 degrees, so I had them coated rechecked the temp and what a difference, now at 2500 rpm there about 340 degrees, I'm very pleased with that.
I have had a lot of time using temp guns/cameras they are not as effective shooting thru a glass window and/or shinny surfaces. You need to put a small black flat paint spot on them then check this will give you a more exact temp. I had the Jet-hot applied to my Melrose headers in/out and it did drop the exhaust pipe temp a bunch. Enough that you could get your hands near by and not get burnt. wro87

All our stuff is NITRO-PLATE coated, and you can change plugs 5 minutes after you shut the motor off. Nitro-Plate is also the offspring company of Servitech industries, which does all the OEM coatings for GM, Ford, and Chrysler. You'd be suprised the stuff they coat on cars these days, some of it not even thermally related
Infrared temp guns get lower readings on shiny surfaces, in my experience. Food for thought.
I know what your saying, like if aim the gun at my fireplace doors which are brass plated the reading is much lower than the surrounding area, but the coating is not that reflective plus when I first checked them they had a polished stainless steel finish.

Jet hot coating high flow cats is NOT what you want to do. I spoke to R-T in detail about cats and they need to Dissiapate LOTS of Heat. You will be destroying your cats much sooner by coating them.

That did cross my mind before I had them done, but some cats come with full shields around them, I guess time will tell.
