I'm gonna change valve seals and add RR's, so I need new locks, correct? I'm only going to 1.5, so I'm using stock springs. Can I use titanium retainers also? TIA
Unless you find damage to the valve stems, retainers or locks, there is no need to change the locks. Besides being a risk on a non-race vehicle, what would you hope to gain from titanium retainers?
I was thinking the hype of them being lighter & adding some RPM could have merit. And although I take her to the track on occasion, I'm not there every Sunday. I can apply that cash to future mods. Thanks
don't the lt4 springs drop right on to a 113 head? that's what i would do, bring the spring pressure up with some nice LT4 springs and retainers. much more reliable on the street than ti and the whole set is something like a hundred bucks..maybe less. it's a very nice and inexpensive upgrade to decade plus old valve springs.
For about $50.00 you can up grade the valve springs which will extend the rpm range of the valve train. But neither the the $50.00 nor the titanium retainers will be "adding some RPM" to the stock L98. The factory stock valve train is already capable of functioning beyond the breathing range of the L98 induction system.
