I am going to have my 95 Auto tranny rebuilt. The current stall converter (2800) is about ten years old but only 9,000 miles (close to 400 1/4 mile trips). The LT1 is a DRM built 383. Should I replace the converter at the same time I have the tranny rebuilt?
Since it's a DRM car I would assume it has a quality converter in it already. If it ain't broke don't fix it, the question then becomes is the converter hurt along with the trans ?
Why are you rebuilding the trans? If the clutches are fried or you broke hard parts the converter is full of debris and there is no way to flush it completely, I would replace it or have it rebuilt. Be sure to flush the lines and cooler too.
Hey thanks for the call to our shop today. Sorry I couldn't be more help, its been a long time since we built the car. Once you get things apart, either snap a picture and/or tell me what color it is. I maybe able to put my thinking hat and come up with the manufactor. Most bigger companys can take them apart. Clean and put back together for half the price. Or sometimes they can change the stall, for a huge discount from buying a new one.
