I have replaced the brake light switch and have checked the fuse and light bulbs on one side only. I don't know if one dead light bulb on either side would cause this? I will check that tonight. Any ideas on what I should check after that?
I would get out the test light, and have someone press the brake 2 see if there's any current coming 2 the light. If not the U'll have 2 trace back and see where the break in the line is.
One bulb out wouldn't cause all to go out. Turn on the flashers, this checks the Stop/Hazard fuse. This also checks the ground connections to the left and right Tail/Stop/Turn Lamps assemblies. If fuse is OK check for continuity through the stop lamp switch also its adjustment. If continuity is ok check for voltage at the stop lamps.

The flashers, tail lights and turn signals all work ok. No voltage at stop lamps.
Does your third brake light work? If it does, consider the problem could be in the turn signal switch. The current for the main stop lamps is directed through the turn signal switch so that the brake light can be flashed. The current for the 3rd brake does NOT go through the t/s switch and is therefore not affected. An open in the switch where stop lamp current is to pass will only affect the stop lamp circuit and NOT t/s, flashers, etc. The key here is your 3rd brake light. (I'm assuming you have a 3rd light, 1986+ Corvette)
I found the problem. The switch just needed to be adjusted. The only thing left is trying to get the retaining clip back on.. Thanks for all the suggestions.
Pull your shoulder out of the socket and check the bulbs. I put LED's in my 85. I actually got the clear LED tail lights, but the car is white so it looked too albino. So we wrapped every light with black tint. Looks bad ***.
fsm?? field service manual? My Haynes diagrams are too component oriented, without much detail on how subsystems are wired.
The only use I can think of for a Haynes manual is as a pillow when working under the car.
FSM is Factory Service Manual. They are year specific and usually two books. Second books has all the wiring diagrams. You can check the parts for sale section of the forum or Ebay. There available in the original paper version or a CD with PDF files.
Thanks, Brian. Just got new turn signal switch. Now have brake lights. Will get FSM next. Had car for 27 years, )daily driver with 210,000 miles) limping by with whatever sources I could find. I grew up in Selma. Where you?
