engine trouble
ok so i have an 6 speed 89 vette with 165000 on it with 10000 on new engine. Awhile ago when we were having heavy rains all of a sudden my car would act funny and be almost un drivable. Now that i am on my spring break i feel that i have time to fix this problem. One thing that is weird is that sometimes randomly the vette will drive fine no problem whatsoever. And others the check engine light goes on and when i step on the gas it sputters and bogs out sometimes backfiring somewhere in the engine, possibly intake somewhere. Awhile back i checked the engine codes it was throwing and said ignition module and check ecu. I looked up a little more and it said possibly replace ecu and or ignition module. Where is the ignition module and ecu on the car and how would i know that these are what the problem is? I am not good with electrical, but i have a good feeling that is all the problem is. What should i do? i'm sick of driving my civic, i want my vette back!

I don't know where you are getting your info, but to exchange the ECM usually comes at the end of some fairly exhaustive tests. You can have the ignition module checked at a parts store, for free of you really think that is a possibility. Your best course of action is to double check what codes you have, and then follow the trouble shooting chart in your FSM for each of the codes, starting with the lowest numbered code, first. Remember, don't shoot the messenger and don't throw money at it.
