Gents, My inflatable restraint light and seat belt lite popped on and did not go off, so I unhooked the battery ground but the lites stayed on. I then downloaded the info that told me how to check for the codes and how to fix the problem with the sensor grounds. But first it said clear the codes as it might be a intermitent problem and it might be solved this way. I took my Vette to my buddy-mechanic and he checked it with his Auto-x-ray scanner. To my surprise he told me there were no codes stored, so there were none to clear. Now where do I start? Do I go to the sensors and clean the grounds or is there something else to do first? I hope there is some other fix as my car has ground effects to take off before I can get to the sensors. O.K. gentlemen scratch your heads and hopefully tell me where to start to fix this problem or just clean the sensors anyway. Thanks, Allentown Ernie.
You check for codes by grounding the K outlet in the ALDL. You "read" the codes the same as when you check the "service engine soon" light.
The Auto XRay won't read these codes, nor can you clear them with it.
You should do a search as there is a good procedure, that I used successfully, to check and clear the codes.
Seems to be a common problem on the '90, as I found out.
Good luck
There is a Tech Tip on how to fix the SRS light in the C4 Tech Tip section. At the top of the page where it says "Other" click on the down arrow and select Tech Tips, then C4. Lots of good stuff there.
Thank you gentlemen, I did not know the auto-x-ray could not clear the codes or read them. I have downloaded the same page of instructions as is posted on tech tips. I will follow them exactly. Again thank you for your help. Allentown Ernie.
