If you drive the car 6-10,000 your still probably excessive, but it isn't that big of a deal, as long as you don't mind and enjoy knowing you are taking excellent care of the car.
If you get 11,000 miles a year or more on it, I'd say it's just about right. That way you won't forget to do some maintenance that should be done.
I follow this antiquated schedule foir all my cars; I was given this for my Lincoln(by a family friend who gave me the car) as if it were a service vehicle:
Every 3000 Miles
-Oil and Filter Change
-Inspect Hoses
-Lube Ball Joints and Recirculating Ball Assembly(not relevant on the Vette)
Every 6000 Miles(in addition to the 3k)
-Inspect Belt for wear and replace if necessary.
-Rotate tires(if rotateable)
Every 15000 Miles
-Replace Fuel and Air Filters
-Replace PCV Valve and hose
Every 24000 Miles
-Transmission Fluid and Filter Change
Every 60000 Miles
-Replace Accessory Belt.
-Replace Spark Plugs.
BIYEARLY
-Replace Brake Fluid and Coolant.
He gets about 300k miles(4 - 5 years of driving for him) out of a stock Town Car and then even though nothing will be broken, he'll trade it in for a low mileage used TC. He did this from the mid 1960s until he died early this year and he remembered only paying for 1 transmission rebuild and a valve job.
