Default Camshaft Removal Help???

Hello all, I am in the process of removing the camshaft on my 1988 Corvette coupe with a 4+3 trans. I have just about got it out, however here's my problem: I can only get it about halfway out before the front structural piece blocks it, (if the structural member was just a 1/2 inch lower it would clear). I took out the motor mount bolts and tried to raise the engine just a little with an engine hoist but it wouldn't move even a little bit, so what do I still need to losen/remove to get the engine to move upward just a little bit??? Do I need to disconect the engine from the trans???
Thanks for any guidence you can provide

This won't help but I'm glad you brought it up. I was thinking of doing a new cam in the car too. Mine is a 1990.

I have never done this, but I think the transmission is supported largely by the "C" beam. You may need to place a transmission jack under it, disconnect the C beam, and then try to maneuver the engine. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

Did you remove the motor mount bolts ?

I had the same issue on my 89 when I was removing the Cam.

All I did was remove the passenger side motor mount and jack the motor up 1/2". The Cam then slide right out.

I'll try loosening the C-beam, all I need is for the motor to move just a 1/2 inch upwards.

I did remove both motor mount bolts but when I tried to lift it a bit with the engine hoist it still didn't move even a little bit.
Also the heads, intake, radiator, rad cooling fan ,lifters, distributor, headers and all accesories are moved.

Put a board between a floor jack and the oil pan. It should move fairly easy.

I was thinking it doesn't take a whole lot to move it, especially just a 1/2".

Loosening the c-beam is not necessary.

Just loosen the motor bolts and jack up at the oil pan, use a 2x4 on the jack. Been there, and thats all the room that you will need.

Dont use a hoist to pull it it...you are probably cocking the engine sideways. . . . jamming it on its mounts. . . . simply put a piece of wood across your oil pan and gently jack it up. If that doesnt work. Put a tiny bit of pressure on the jack. . . and pry lust a little on the mount brackets and mount. That should do the trick

BTW, I replaced my cam too.. . .

Thanks you all for all your help, the camshaft is out now!!!, I used a crow bar to shift the motor mount around a bit (yes, they were unbolted) and an engine hoist to lift the engine and that did the trick I'm guessing the enigine hoist was just not lifting at a good angle and was jamming the motor mounts, since once I gave it a little pry with the crow bar the engine easily lifted a good 2 inches.
