I realize that I lot as to do with the dealer tuner, but since I am always alone and in the middle of now where...what's the deal. XFI seems to priced super high...? Bigstuff3 guy (nor any dealers) have returned my calls.
I don't believe the DFI system's quality has been retained since they switched manufacturers...so I am not considering them.
Motor is a 427 sbc with 244/248 cam...zf6 yada yada yada

I haven't checked the prices since getting my FAST, but the basic difference is that Bigstuff3 has some more inputs over what the FAST does. If you need some of those extra inputs found only in the BS3, then that's your system. If not, XFI is a good choice. You'll probably find more support for FAST in the market place when it comes to wiring harnesses and tuners who are familiar with the software. Both systems are excellent and worth the money if you want the ultimate in tunability. You simply need to look at the feature sets of both boxes and decide as to whether one box or the other offers the features that you want.
I have been running classic FAST for 4 years now and have been extremely happy with how the car has run since piggybacking the old GM ECU.
What features are important to you in a standalone system?

Ron
1 14+x24+ MAP to RPM high Resolution of VE tables
2 6500+ support
3 Sequential fuel
4 WB support
5 last for 5+ years
6 knock support
7 Nitrous "help" (RPM window, shift, spark, and fuel)
Nice to have but not out there with the above
MDS technology
MAF support (some gm ECMs)
Traction control (in XFI but for drag only)
plug in play wiring harness so that my dash is fully happy
$1500 all inclusive prices
You can get all of the stuff that you mention above with either system. Not sure why you would care about the MAF, but neither of the systems will offer that. The only thing that I would say is that it's likely that more people may make a harness that will interface with the FAST XFI and keep your dash happy than with the BS3, but I'll admit that I haven't researched that last statement in over a year. I am use the fasttrackperformance.com harness on my classic FAST and have been trilled with it. FTP got bought, and the site will redirect you to another site which still sells a similar product and has XFI harnesses available.

Interesting comment, but what and were is the data that backs it up? I am not a dealer, but am familiar with numerous installations on performance boats and cars. The root cause problems I see are installation based. i.e. bad grounds, bad source power, HV burnout due to bubba mechanics, etc. etc. that any of the systems would suffer from.
