I have an 84 CFI L83, was thinking about swapping in an LT1. Has anyone done this? Can this be done fairly easily? I honestly have never swapped a motor so I'm not sure what the sidesteps are. Anyone have any info on this?

HERE WE GO......Not an easy swap. Many differences. Is your motor worn out?

Haha yes, It's got some wear. 155k on it. I've been replacing misc things here and there, but nothing serious. Just routine things, replaced belts, timing and ignition, seals, wires, etc.
Am I going to need to be rerouting half the bay? heh..
LOL,
Yes I did it not a bad swap if you buy a three wire harness or if you are missing a few brain cells wire it your self. Jims performance will modify an existing LT1 harness and do a great job.
Now the 84 is a little different then the rest.
Leave the stock ECM in place to handle the overdrive if you have an auto,
Stock Motor mounts and exhaust will be fine
Need to tap into the cooling system for the steam vent from the LT1 ( I taped the cooling level sensor hole on the rad with a 1/4" pipe fitting)
All the gauges will work just fine (Use the Stock sensors)
You will need to upgrade to an 85+ FP
Best bet is to use an C4 LT1 assy package including brackets
