Default Hi Pete

How much for a 2200 to 2500 stall lockup converter for 1996 LT1 . I dont want to lose much gas mileage, but enough stall to "feel" it.

There are 2 options.
1) reworked stock 12 incher $300 add $45 for antiballoon plate.
2) 9.5 inch street/race converter w/antiballoonplate (included) $525

Shipping added to price for both.

aside from my target it was based on; weight, cam duration, gear, and tq/hp. (not the same as in my sig.). At min. it will be 2800 and max. should be 3000....this is the range I was looking for in a street driven car. However if I put out more power than anticipatted it would go up. My understanding is if for some reason it isn't where I want it to be it would be re-done once at no charge.

What's a antiballon plate? What does it do?

Torque causes the converter to try to push itself apart by spreading the shell.
The antiballoon plate helps to stabilize the converter.
If you look at the photo with the snout, you can see the flat plate welded in the cover.

You should be happy, Pete sells good stuff and he unlike the morons at Summit, Jegs etc. actually knows what he's talking about. I hired a kid that used to work @ Summit racing, they give them all phone names so you can't track them down and kill them. Ever notice how they all have uncommon names like Evander

Ok Pete. .. . . here are my plans and perhaps you have help me select one of your converters.

Right now I have a stock 350cid Lt-1 with the GM hot cam kit in it. Plus I have Magnaflow mufflers. Not sure yet if I am going to remove the restrictive resonator.

Recently I have replaced the Cats with ones from Eastern Catalytic.

As you know, I am rebuilding the transmission with your recommended parts. Raybestos Z-Pack, Alto Red Eagles and Kolene steels, beast shell, etc.

Next year, I am going to stroke the motor to 400+ cid, and pretty stiff cam (probably the cc305 to pass emissions), and rasie the rev limiter to 6300rpm.

I am looking for a converter that will give me a compromise between economy and performance as the car may be used as a daily driver in the summer. . . long trips from PA to NYC.

Well, sir, what would you recommend?

You have a few options.
1) Build a converter to suit your present combination and hope that the increased power you put to it at a later date does not flash it too high.
2) Build a super conservative converter that will likely "fit" your future combo
3) Build a 2800 stall converter now, and if need be, send it back in for the free restall when the new engine is about to go in.

I personally like option number 3
2800-3000 on a stock or mild lt1 is a ton of fun, and the lock up feature retains all the fuel milage when highway cruising.

If you can recoup $200 or so for your old converter through a forum sale, It would help the budget. Also, remember the offer I made last year?
It still applies

9.5 is as small as we can go, and 6000 stall is the approx limit. Although I have never had one built that high. If a car needs 6k stall, it usually have a more race oriented transmission than the 700 or 4l60e.
