Default Headlight motor trying to open?

I just came in from the garage and had to unplug the passengers side headlight, it was trying to engage even when the car was turned off. My wife came in and told me she was hearing a noise in the garage. So I went out to see what it was and come to find out it the headlight motor trying to engage about every 30 seconds or so....anyone else have or seen anything like this and what could it be?

were in the same boat right now

i have to unplug mine each time i flip the lights over or just leave them on

maybe well figure it out together


i think the plug itself is bad and is grounding itself inside the plug

It's hard to help without the year vehicle. There are two different style motors. I checked your profile and there's no info there either.

If your gears are starting to slip the motor will run and it sounds like it is grinding.

The sticky is for later style motors and doesn't apply to an '85. I'll post a follow up with a link to the earlier style motor. There are a few tests to perform to ensure your relays are working properly. If they are then the problem is probably in the limit switches inside the motor. Over time they will get dirty which will require disassembly and cleaning. But before removing any motors, make sure everything else is working properly.
