Got a 1984 C4... passanger power window travels completely to the up position but travels down and stops about 2 inches above the door/window sill. Is there an adjustment for this. It does not appear as if something is blocking its movement.
The early C4's (up until late 1986 models) have a different window regulator than the later models. While there is a stop point that can be adjusted, it is common for the early regulators to simply not be strong enough to properly raise and lower the window (the ribbon becomes dirty, old, or broken as mentioned).
The door skins are usually old and fragile and to adjust the stop point (if it is the issue) you will need to do 80% of the work required if you just replaced the regulator. The newer regulators are much faster and smoother and can be had on ebay much cheaper than the GM retail price (GM wants about $300 each I believe).
I have replaced my driver's side regulator, and I would not pull the door skin on an early C4 without replacing the regulator. It is a serious improvement!
The 84's, 85's and 86 coupes had the ribbons, the 86 verts had the new type. I had an 86 with the ribbon and when it broke, I put a new ribbon in. If I had it to do over and could get a newer type unit like the deal from Corvetterecycleing, I would definitely spring the $99 to upgrade.
I have to agree with one of the posters in the link that J provided tho. There is a difference between "replacement" and "upgrade" I probly woulda made the same mistake. Just read the listing carefully and look at the pics. You have good reference photos to look at here if your not sure.
