Steering column help

What year steering column will fit an 86 vette without any modifications. I keep hearing I can use a column from 84 to 89. Is this true?

86-89. The 84 and 85 did not have VATS. There is a slight difference in the manual columns.

I will now go searching for an 86 - 89 column. I have an 86 that was in bad shape. I kept finding 89's for sale but was not sure if it was a direct fit. Your help is much appreciated and now I can get her back on the road in time for the summer. After replacing I have to get the keys resistors to match so it will start. Figure I will just take both keys to the dealership and have them remake the key with the correct resistance.
