For those of you that have wondered...what is under those heat shields on my 85...here are a couple of pictures.
These are the original OEM stock exhaust manifolds on the 85 built from tube stock not cast iron like many others.
Here is where the major restriction to these "headers" or the stock manifold...
The tubes are about 1-1/2" I.D. and are forced into this collection area of about 2-1/2". Now you can understand where the long tube header guys gain their HP.
I am going to take mine down to my shop and use the air grinder on them to clean out the weld splatter and grind off the air tubes sticking into the intake tube. Since this is tube, I don't think I can grind off too much of the tube itself to improve flow.
