Just to clarify my above statement. I once told a friend that my L98 wouldn't breath after 4800 RPM and he looked at me like  . He thought I meant that the engine could not rev past 4800RPM. I then explained how it doesn't make any usable power past 4800 RPM.

mountain, what if you just bent up some *large* diameter aluminum tubing the shortest length possible and heliarced it to some aluminum flanges? The ASM tubes are a work of art and were designed as cheater tubes that would be less detectable to the roving eyes of your competiors. If you came up with some tubes that really worked and didn't have to worry about maintaining any of the stock look, and could make them cost effectively, you would revolutionize the TPI setup . The Accell base is pretty good, and has room to port match to larger runners at both ends. (round on the intake) The expensive SR works well up to 6,000, but is universally despised for all of the hearburn it causes on install. (and removal... which of course we *never* have to do) :cry

Somewhere I saw a picture of a TPI setup with large rubber hoses(like radiator hose) in place of
the metal runners. Seems like it would be easy to do if you can figure out how to get them sealed.

IMO, I don't think a finger can be pointed at just one place and say, change that and it will work....as usual....

I think changing the entire top end will help things immensley....
and for a short cut on all the induction metal, apparently getting a large manifold and then siameseing the runners 4" down the passages from the runner ends will make it breath a whole lot better, but I suspect this is done much more effectively on a large passage manifold than a stock one... I have not done this modification yet to my engine, but am thinking of it when I get things back together again....it's been listed on these forums as well worth doing....along with cam, heads, exhause, etc.....

It is my opinion that siamesing a intake manifold could cause dillution from reversion but the TPI motors in general do not use a cam with alot of overlap so that point might be mute anyway. So here is where I am at.I have ordered an Accel base and am in the process of making boxed runners with retangular flanges.I am going to open up the stock plenum to this yet undecided size"waiting on the manifold" and will siamese the manifold about a 1/4 inch in because the mating flange there will be retangular also. This is a 89 so I don't have to worry with the cold start injector"easier".The egr will be turned off during prom change. The cam is reasonably hot but still has only 40 degrees of overlap so not much worried about reversion there. Then just see what happens.I have made a trade with my Son since originally posting this topic"it is his car now" and if it does not run good after this work we will force the air in via supercharging.Although I cannot tell you how to bend the boxed runners I would certainly be glad share the dimensions of the 6 pieces of metal that will be required to weld together upon completion for those who are interested.By the way this is scrap material that is being used. The entire project of the runners alone is free. For those of you that would have to buy from a metal scrap yard I don't think it would be above 10.00 bucks + welding
You know a inexpensive alternative but ugly way would to be finding a piece of material that would weld to the stock runners on the outside of both sides then hog out the centers.
My hat is off to you guys using the Super Ram! Too much bending over the car for too long a period for this old man!

Welding them up, that's a lot of bending over too....I dunno man, enough with the welding I put my buddy through for the custom grill out of aluminum, then adding the rack and pinion steering...at some point he going to tell me what and where to do with any more welding,...so maybe I relax on that a bit....
those guys with the box inductions systems...and I understand a complex bolting issue, seeems to me, a bit of re doing it should take care of that...
NO??? loc tite on the bolts???
